Positions at the University of Ibadan

The Yoruba Language Centre (YLC), approved by the Senate of the University of Ibadan in 2010, has three main aims and Objectives, which are:

i) to be the Leader in designing, supporting and implementing functional Yoruba
Language Education with a view to encouraging and promoting social interaction, integration and development;
ii) to produce well-researched materials on Yoruba Language pedagogy as a
foreign and for a second language acquisition, and similarly teach Yoruba.
Language and Culture;
iii) to offer professional and/or support services in the Yoruba medium to various sectors within and outside academic institutions worldwide.

The Centre also has three Units:
Yoruba Language Acquisition (YLA)
Research and Material Development (RMD)
Professional and Support Services Unit (PSS)

The Centre commenced activities relating to Yoruba as a Foreign Language in September 2010 with the Yoruba Flagship Programme for American students.

The centre currently seeks to recruit a candidate as the Director of Centre.
The Director of the Centre shall be a serving or retired Professor with proven and demonstrable interest in Yoruba Language and/or Culture. He/She must be literate and proficient in Yoruba, with evidence of highly significant contributions to Yoruba language pedagogy, development and application.

The successful candidate must have great leadership skills and enormous capacity to generate new ideas geared towards achieving the Centre vision and mission. The Director shall report to the Vice-Chancellor through the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).

Salary: CONUASS 07 (N2,485.099 x N480,449 – N3,209,140)

Conditions of Appointment
For a retired Professor, the appointment, which is to commence as soon as possible, is for three (3) years but renewable for specific periods thereafter subject to satisfactory performance. However, for a serving Professor, the appointment will be to retiring age.

Benefits include the following:

- Residential accommodation at an approved rate or Housing allowance as may be approved from time-to-time if University accommodation is not available;
- Medical attention in line with prevailing government policy:
- Passages for approved Overseas trips;
- Pension Scheme or comparable arrangement as may be approved from time-to-time by the University Council (Only for a serving Professor)
